What is Hacktoberfest?

“Hosted by DigitalOcean for the 8th year in a row, Hacktoberfest encourages participation in giving back to the open-source community by completing pull requests, participating in events, and donating to open source projects.”

At Hacktoberfest, whoever feels the desire to make positive changes and have an impact on the open-source community can join the global event regardless of skill level or background. Now this month-long event throughout October gives you the chance to contribute to the open-source codebase of Bitrise. 🚀

How to join?

We’ve prepared everything for you to make sure you have a seamless Bitrise Hacktoberfest experience.

  1. First, check out the official Hacktoberfest resources about participation rules and quality standards. You can sign up anytime between October 1 and October 31. Be sure to sign up on the official Hacktoberfest website for your pull requests to count!

  2. 🍒 Pick a challenge from our list: Visit the Github project we’ve put together with all the exciting tasks you can help with, labeled with the Hacktoberfest tag. These are mostly bug fixes, performance or UI improvements, or minor enhancements. We welcome contributions in the bitrise-steplib GitHub organization repositories. Please note that projects in the bitrise-io organization are not part of Hacktoberfest.
  3. Read our Code of Conduct and Contribution Guidelines where you can see more info about all the different ways you can contribute with more technical information.

  4. We recommend joining our community on Slack, especially the #hacktoberfest2021 channel where — hopefully — amazing conversations will happen throughout the whole month. You can also find some of our team members here who can help you out anytime you’re stuck with something.

What can you win?

We’d love to send you a special Bitrise swag pack if you:

  • Contribute with 4 or more Pull Requests to any of our open issues labeled Hacktoberfest
  • Once all of your PRs have received the hacktoberfest-accepted label.
Fill out our form with links to your PRs and your shipping details, so we can send you an amazing swag pack including a Purr Request plushie, an amazing pair of Bitrise socks, and a successful build magnet!

We’re happy if you tweet about your Hacktoberfest experience — don’t forget to tag our Twitter account (@bitrise) so we can reshare it right away.

Our team would be delighted to have you in the project and see how your contribution improves the quality of our services. Are you up for the challenge? ✨
